Geographical Area

The Philippines, is a group of islands in South East Asia located in the Western Pacific. It consists of 7.107 islands in three groups: Luzon, Vizcayas, and Mindanao. The capital is Manila. To the North and West of the main island Luzon is Taiwan. Viet Nam is located to the West of the South China Sea; Southwest Malaysia on the island of Borneo over the Sulu sea; to the South the Celebes Sea. To the East the country is separated of the Philippine Sea and the island nation of Palau. The location in the Pacific Ocean on "the Ring of Fire" near the Equator means abundant natural resources and the world's greatest biodiversity. With about 300,000 sq km (115.831 sq mi), the Philippines is the 64th-largest country in the world. With a population of about 100 million people, the Republic of the Philippines is the seventh most populous country in Asia and the 12th most populated country in the world.
